Napoleon, Israel, Megiddo and War

Okay, keep an eye on the happening in the next few days, Israel is intensifying flights over Lebanon due to Lebanese soldiers firing on IDF across the border.

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel has intensified controversial military flights over the Lebanon border but stressed it wanted no escalation after Israeli and Lebanese soldiers traded fire for the first time in decades.

"We are going to continue our flights and even bolster our aerial activities our Lebanon," General Alon Friedman told public radio hours after the exchange on the volatile Israeli-Lebanese border.

But the French Peace keeping forces the United Nations have placed in there have said they will shoot down Israeli jets if they are buzzin around over Lebanon.

Eleven of the flights overflew an area of operations of a French battalion of the UN mission in southern Lebanon, and in one instance, two Israeli F-15 jets flew over the French area at low altitude and high speed, Dujarric said.

The anti-aircraft unit of the French battalion 'took initial preparatory steps to respond to these actions, in accordance with UNIFIL rules of engagement and Security Council Resolution 1701,' he said.

Milos Sturger, spokesman of the UN interim force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), confirmed the flights. A Lebanese army source in southern Lebanon said that two jets 'flew very low over the French base.'

'The French battalion decided to take necessary steps to respond to such violations,' the army source said.

According to the source, the French prepared anti-aircraft machineguns around their bases as a preventive measure.

The commander of the UNIFIL force, France's Alain Pellegrini, has already called on Israel to end its frequent overflights over Lebanon.

If the French do shoot down an Israeli jet… um… can I quote Napoleon here? It is recorded that the great French leader, Napoleon, referred to Megiddo as "the most natural battleground of the whole earth." The French may finally get their wish to fight in this Northern Israeli valley. In case the reader does not know, the Valley of Megiddo is where Armageddon takes place. (Eschatology 101)
