Commies vs. Marine Corp (Libertarian Republican h/t)

by Denise "Steelerbabe" Clarks, The Right Stuff

The administration of the Empire State Building has capitulated to Communism by lighting the tower in red and yellow to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Communist China.

Back in November of 2008, however, the same administration denied a request from the U.S. Marine Corps to have the tower lit up in scarlet and gold to honor the Corps' 233rd birthday.

By now, it is a known fact that the Empire State Building was lit up to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the formation of Communist China. God help this country.

Last year, the Marine Corps had asked that the landmark be lit up in scarlet and gold on November 10 to honor the 233rd birthday of the Corps. They were flat-out told no. But yet it'll be lit up for the same kind of ideology the Corps has fought against for so long??? The world has turned upside down.

Also last year, the building changed its colors to honor such occasions as The Cat Fancier's Association's Cat Championship, the release of Mariah Carey's album, and the 58th anniversary of the European Union. Why not for the Marine Corps?

Building officials said an anniversary as obscure as a 233rd doesn't meet their "standard" for lighting events. An album release or a cat convention does? What the hell is wrong with this picture?

For the owners and administrators of the Empire State Building to disrespect this country and the Marine Corps like this is outrageous. Not only is it unpatriotic, but I would add that it borders on giving comfort to potential enemies. I guess they figure if the White House will fly the Chinese flag, then lighting a tower must be the right thing to do.

I recently commented that I'd like to visit New York City once in my life. With all the crap happening there from this incident to wanting to ban smoking outside, I won't be taking a bite of the Big Apple. I'll spend my tourist dollars elsewhere... like Cleveland.

AP wonders: In hindsight, wasn’t it hypocritical of Letterman to mock politicians for infidelity?

(HotAir Import)

Why … yes. Yes, I suppose it was.

Eliot Spitzer, John Edwards and Larry Craig came in for their share of abuse, as did the governor of South Carolina. “Gov. Mark Sanford didn’t really enjoy this year’s Fourth of July. He left his favorite firecracker in Argentina,” Letterman wisecracked…

Not that Letterman falls into quite the same category of unfaithful officials who hypocritically spouted family values. After all, comedy — not moral guidance — is Letterman’s aim. And he is not facing re-election, though he did briefly fret on the air about keeping his job.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who had a run-in with Letterman over jokes made at the expense of her teenage daughter, declined through a spokeswoman to comment on his admissions. But visitors to Palin’s Facebook page did not hold back.

One Palin supporter who posted under the name Linda Aragona wrote: “Amen! God said you will reap what you sow. Letterman tried to destroy Sarah personally and professionally. Looks like that wagging finger was turned right back on him. Who’s laughing now Dave?!!!”

Being blackmailed by an avaricious scumbag is God’s revenge on Dave? Hmmmm. In any case, Verum Serum was way ahead of this meme last night, chronicling some of Letterman’s greatest side-splitting hits at the expense of Larry Craig, David Vitter, Eliot Spitzer and others. I’m assuming he’ll skate on the hypocrisy unless the mysterious “creepy things” that he did turn out to be even creepier than what those turds were charged with doing, in which case this’ll be a source of content for months on end. Are you looking forward to post after post about Letterman’s skeevy behavior? Me neither.

Sad On All Levels -- Letterman Sex Extortion

An NYPD source has told RadarOnline.com that the suspect under arrest in the David Letterman extortion case was a producer for CBS’s 48 Hours, Robert Halderman. Halderman often went by his middle name Joe and currently has a residence in Connecticut.

Read Details From The Search Warrant Including Woman’s Identity

A source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com that Letterman met with Halderman several times as part of the police operation leading to the arrest.

Letterman Victim Of Attempted Extortion, Admits Affairs With Staff Members

RadarOnline.com has also learned that the alleged extortionist lived with one of the woman who David was involved with.

The affair happened a long time ago, before his son Harry was born, and before he got married, but he was living with his wife to be at the time.

Halderman needed money police say and decided to target Letterman.

The woman still works on the show but is no longer involved with David.

The Letterman scandal exploded Thursday when the talk show host told his studio audience what was going on. At one point he said: "This morning, I did something I've never done in my life," said Letterman. "I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury."

The extortionist was given a phony $2 million check and his arrest followed that transaction.

MORE CRIME: Inside Jaycee Lee Dugard’s Backyard Prison

Letterman admitted to sexual relationships with members of his staff. "My response to that is, yes I have," Letterman said, regarding his liaisons. "Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would. I feel like I need to protect these people. I need to certainly protect my family."

MORE CRIME: Exclusive Interview With Jaycee Lee Dugard’s Aunt

Letterman married Regina Lasko in March of this year. The couple began dating in 1986 and have a son, Harry, born in November 2003.

Sources tell RadarOnline.com that Dave’s sexual relationships happened before the marriage, but during his relationship with Lasko. His relationship with the woman connected to the extortionist has apparently been over for a long time.

Religion & Cult News/Catch-Up (10-1-09)

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Elizabeth Smart testified Thursday she was raped repeatedly each day after she was abducted from her bedroom seven years ago and told she would be killed if she yelled or tried to escape.

She described Brian David Mitchell, her alleged kidnapper, as "evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God."

Smart testified in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City as part of a competency proceeding for the man charged in her 2002 kidnapping.

Mitchell has twice been found incompetent for trial in state court. Mitchell and his estranged wife were found with Smart nine months after she disappeared from her Salt Lake City home.

A judge ruled earlier this week that testimony from Smart, now 21, is relevant to the mental competency of Mitchell, who was removed from the courtroom before Smart arrived and taken to a holding cell where he could listen to the proceedings....

2 Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church elders resign
Two elders have resigned from Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, saying the mega-church'snew pastor is retaliating against his critics.

Divisions deepened at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, the Fort Lauderdale mega-church, as two elders resigned Tuesday night following the first service of a breakaway congregation on Sunday.

The two have accused Pastor Tullian Tchividjian and his officers of retaliating against members who tried to have him fired, criticisms that Coral Ridge officials have denied.

``I'm not trying to fuel any fire. I just couldn't agree with the course of the leadership,'' said Dan Westphal, who resigned from the church's board of elders along with Roy Christie. ``We had a golden opportunity to reconcile rather than be punitive.''

The developments follow the exit last week of organist Samuel Metzger and John Wilson, director of the traditional worship service. Both men helped lead music at the Sunday service of 400 dissidents at Butterfly World in Coconut Creek....

Christians are ‘crucified’ in guerrilla raids Southern Sudan News - Southern Sudan News
Marauding bands of guerrillas have crucified seven Christians during a series of raids on villages in Sudan.

One of the men was tied to a tree and mutilated while six other victims were nailed to pieces of wood fastened to the ground and killed.

Villagers who found their bodies near the town of Nzara said it was like a "grotesque crucifixion scene".

Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio has now appealed for international help to stop the attacks by members of the Lord's Resistance Army.

He said his government appeared powerless to prevent attacks by members of the guerrilla force based in northern Uganda. He spoke out after a spate of killings and abductions in two towns near the borders of the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In one instance guerrillas stormed into Our Lady Queen of Peace church in Ezo during a novena prayer and desecrated the Host, the altar and the building before abducting 17 people mostly in their teens and 20s. One of the captives was later tied to a tree and killed while 13 others in the group are still missing, according to Aid to the Church in Need, a charity helping persecuted Christians.

The bishop said the attack, which happened on the feast of the Assumption, was "a huge shock to us".

"It was hard to take in the fact that we were so exposed to such a risk," he said. "The attackers clearly wanted to harm the people because they knew they were at prayer.

"Afterwards people kept coming to me with such suffering in their eyes, begging me to do something about the situation - to get back their children and grandchildren who have disappeared."

Bishop Hiiboro said that the attack in Ezo was part of a cycle of violence that could only be broken with international cooperation "The government here cannot make a real difference to the Lord's Resistance Army problem," he said. "They kept promising that they had the issue under control but now we see the reality. Nobody is coming to our aid. We are asking those who are responsible in the international community to do something about it."

A week after the first attack six people were ambushed in a forest near to the town of Nzara and killed after they were nailed to pieces of wood fastened to the ground. At about the same time a further 12 people were abducted from a village close to Nzara.

Bishop Hiiboro responded by ordering three days of prayer, culminating in some 20,000 people walking more than two miles barefoot in sackcloth and ashes in silent protest at the alleged government inaction to increase security in the region. Government ministers from the state capital, Yambio, and Juba, the provincial capital of south Sudan, took part in the event and said they would try to increase the police presence in the region.

Bishop Hiiboro has also written to the government in Khartoum, the capital, to remind officials that under the civil war peace settlement the regime has a duty to protect the south of Sudan as well as the north.

Sudan is predominantly Muslim in the Arab north of the country but the black tribal people of the south are mostly either Christians or animists.

The Lord's Resistance Army has waged war against the Ugandan government since 1987 but often forays into other neighbouring African countries. It has a reputation for extreme violence including random murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children, and forcing children to participate in hostilities. The group is considered a terrorist organisation by the United States.

It was founded and is led by Joseph Kony. He has formed the guerrillas into a religious cult based on a blend of Christianity, traditional African religion and witchcraft. He claims to be a spokesman of God and a "medium" of the Holy Spirit. - Tuesday, 29 September 2009 20:02 Marauding bands of guerrillas have crucified seven Christians during a series of raids on villages in Sudan.

Dreams of a "Fantastical" President (Import)

When President Obama first announced his desire to rid the world of nuclear weapons, I laughed out loud. After all, what’s not to chuckle at?

UN Climate Talks

Would he next offer future generations the gift of flight, like Britain’s Natural Law Party, or promise to abolish death like would-be Russian presidential candidate Grigory Grabovoi, shortly before he was jailed for accepting money to reincarnate a non-existent victim of the Beslan Tragedy?

Of course not, I thought. It’s just the usual political waffle, nothing to waste time thinking about. The president was striking a pose, attempting to sound statesmanlike, that sort of thing. All politicians indulge in this type of empty, grandstanding rhetoric and Obama’s personal weakness for it is well established. Meanwhile he had presented Russia with an opportunity to get rid of a lot of old weapons they didn’t really want any more, without losing face. Perhaps that was the plan: a conciliatory gesture to the Bear in the hope that it would help in other areas. Good luck with that, by the way.

However since then Obama has continued to insist on his dream of a world without nuclear weapons and I am starting to worry that he really means it. Last week at the UN we were all subjected to a bizarre spectacle- and I don’t mean Gaddafi’s highly entertaining stream of consciousness rant but rather the sight of the president of the USA waffling on about disarmament as if he were some kind of vegetable-munching German hippy living on a commune in 1970s Munich. In order to humor him, the Security Council then passed a resolution affirming his audacious- or rather comical- hope. That was easy enough of course – as we all know, the UN passes resolutions all the time which nobody has any intention of following.

Curiously enough neither the resolution nor Mr. Obama made reference to Iran or North Korea, two states obviously intent on increasing the number of nuclear weapons in the world and who have ignored a good deal of Security Council resolutions themselves. Instead Mr. Obama waited until a meeting of the G20 in Pittsburgh a day later before denouncing a ‘suddenly discovered’ Iranian nuclear facility he already knew about, and which President Bush had known about before him. Gordon Brown and Nicholas Sarkozy stood by his side, offering moral support. However reports soon started to surface that Sarkozy had wanted to confront Iran at the UN the day before, and had offered scathing criticism of Mr. Obama’s pipe dream.

Sarkozy thus seems to believe the president is sincere. However I think we should all attempt to understand what this means before we rush to judgment. Last night I considered the possibilities. This is what I came up with:

1) Obama used to be an academic and has spent a lot of time in the company of various washed- up 1960s radicals. Perhaps, having only relatively recently left behind that playground he doesn’t realize how ridiculous he sounds. If so, we can only hope that he learns quickly.

2) All that messianic rhetoric he spouted during the campaign was not just the calculated blather I assumed it was but actually sincere. He really believes, like the late Michael Jackson, that he can heal the world. By contrast, at least Mahmoud Ahmadinejad holds that a supernatural messiah will bring about universal salvation and not himself. But while the president does display numerous signs of narcissism, I still think this is too far fetched.

Then I started to think about option 3, a variation on #2 I admit, but with a patina of rationality that would appeal to a subtle thinker like Mr. Obama. Perhaps he believes that it is impossible to persuade Iran and North Korea to disarm while Israel, the USA and other countries have nuclear weapons. In this he is most likely correct. Perhaps he even accepts that they have a point- at least insofar as they claim it is manifestly unfair to prohibit one country from enjoying the benefits of a healthy atomic arsenal when you have one yourself. And perhaps- now this is a stretch, I admit- he thinks that the two regimes are led by rational and reasonable men who would agree to give up their weapons programs if the rest of the world also disarmed. Then everybody could go home happy.

Now I know that this sounds shockingly naïve but it does explain why he went out of his way to avoid confronting the Iranians at the UN. It also strikes me as the kind of conceit which, dressed up with enough academic think tank hokum, an intellectual of Mr. Obama’s stature could just about believe in. It’s ‘fair’ and ‘reasonable’ after all, and are we not all fair and reasonable men at heart?

Actually, no we’re not. I therefore think it is time we banded together to persuade the president to stop wasting his time and energy. Obviously he won’t listen to anything Fox or Talk Radio has to say, and MSNBC is also a lost cause- that channel produces agitprop strictly for the internal consumption of the Democratic Party faithful. Therefore I would like to suggest to the editors and producers at CNN, ABC, CBS, the New York Times and all those other prestigious news sources that pride themselves on their journalistic integrity that every time Mr. Obama mentions his delusion at a press conference their reporters should openly snigger, and when they write about his speeches later they should preface his words with a phrase such as ‘naïve dream’ or ‘charming fantasy’. Nothing too harsh- we all know he is a sensitive soul. There’s no need to worry about journalistic ethics- this would not be editorializing but a mere statement of fact, like saying the world is round, not flat. And that way, with gentle encouragement from friends, the president might finally set aside childish things and start taking the issue of nuclear proliferation seriously- just as the Iranians and the North Koreans do.

Final Answer -- 9/12 March on Washington -- Over a Million... EASY!

Listen to the news reporters say "tens of thousands"

(Savage Republican h/t)

How big WAS the crowd in D.C. ?

Seems to be the question of the hour. Well, I happen to have a bit of experience with really, REALLY large crowds. Like over 1,000,000 men.

I was at "Stand in the Gap" the Promise Keepers event 4 October 1997 in Washington D.C.

I was over near the tree line in front of the Smithsonian. We arrived about 9:00 and were told that we had just missed an ABC camera crew. The crew had shared with the men around us that ABC was estimating 100,000 men between each Jumbotron. They told us there were 9 Jumbotrons from the Capitol steps to the Washington Monument. We were also told there were another 300,000 plus men on the other side Monument to the Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial. There were another 50,000 on the Ellipse. And many 10,000's walking the streets as there was no more room on the Mall.

Now, here is a satellite picture taken of the Mall during Obama's inauguration ceremony. (Click on the image above and below twice to enlarge).

A photo analyst estimated this crowd (directly above) at 800,000. The Washington Post crowed that there 2,000,000 at the inauguration.

The MSM covered Stand in the Gap with the usual deference they show Christians and conservatives. Compare the two photos and come to your own conclusion about numbers reported by the MSM for the 912 Rally.

NYT Reports Rally Crowd in Thousands, Daily Mail Says Two Million

It goes without saying the Obama-loving media are going to do everything in their power to downplay Saturday's Taxpayer March on Washington, and the New York Times is certainly living down to such expectations.

As evidence, consider the Times headline,"Thousands Rally in Capital to Protest Big Government."

Thousands?

That's certainly not how Britain's Daily Mail saw it (h/t NBer MrShy and reader Keith Brown):

Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" as they protested the president's health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

By contrast, the Times reported:

The demonstrators numbered well into the tens of thousands, though the police declined to estimate the size of the crowd.

I was offline for most of the afternoon and early evening — and just learned that the nutroots are claiming that the screenshot of the 9/12 march in D.C. that I posted — taken from a livecam of the event that I linked to here — is somehow “fake.”

The claim is that the shot came from the Kennedy procession or a previous left-wing protest and that the flag at half-mast proves that it was “fake.”

Newsflash for the clueless: Flags were still at half-mast earlier today in honor of the murder victims of the 9/11 jihadi attacks.

Guess the 9/11-was-an-inside jobbers are still that much in denial.

Unbelievable.

Yes, this is real:
