The Black Community Needs Real Change

I wanted to post a video from a HotAir story about Obama’s claim that “nobody has spoken out more fiercely on the issue of anti- Semitism than I have.” A a theology student, I found this video to be another example of using the Scriptures as a "place setting" in one’s political career. “Reverend” is meaningless today. You can believe that Jesus was not God Almighty but merely a political revolutionary, you can believe that Jesus was a homosexual man, you can believe that Jesus was a Gnostic preaching that anything material is evil and the only rout to heaven was as a man (as Gnostic's teach) and be called “Reverend.” Trashing the collar is another way to look at the matter.

From “the campaigne trail” comes this bit of info below. One must keep in mind that I do not have an issue with a religious man stating his dislike for the homosexual lifestyle using Natural Law and the Bible (while loving the sinner involved). However, Rev. Meeks is a spiritual advisor to Obama who is running for a party that prides itself in gay-pride. Or so the Democratic Party would like its base to think. Politico has a good bit on this as well.

Rev. James T. Meeks is an Illinois state senator and a strong supporter of Obama. From GayWired.com:

Described in a 2004 Chicago Sun Times article as someone Barack Obama regularly seeks out for "spiritual counsel," James Meeks, who will serve as an Obama delegate at the 2008 Democratic convention in Denver, is a long-time political ally to the democratic frontrunner.

When Obama ran for the U.S. Senate in 2003, he frequently campaigned at Salem Baptist Church while Rev. Meeks appeared in television ads supporting the Illinois senator's campaign. Later, according to the same Chicago Sun Times article, on the night after he won the Democratic primary, Sen. Obama attended bible study at Meeks' church "for prayer" and "to say thank you."

So what's the problem? Meeks is, according to the GayWired piece, "stridently homophobic." This isn't a surprise to anyone who follows politics closely. Even Republicans know this and have tried to make an issue of it previously. But on this issue, it matters little what Republicans think. It's not like the party is known for its strident support of the GLBT community. (Though, like Wright, Meeks has a habit of cursing White America.)

This fall of a "Messiah" will be incredible! After Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention , people were looking to Obama as the next great thing to "head this way," however, now what we see is how a large culture has been seething in its hatred for all things it considers white (so much so that black people who disagree are called "House Niggers," a slur if I have ever heard one) under the theology of "Liberation." It saddens my heart... it truly does.
