Cussing, Anger, and the Left

The Left / Swear Words, and Logic

Prager made a good point the other day that is very true. Public cussing. It is a problem of the Left more than the Right. That is, normalizing crewd words in the public forum. I think for the first time a presidential candidate cursed in an interview for Rolling Stone (Kerry), thanks Democrats. Below are two LAUSD school teachers (which make the shirt worse) making contradictory points. As with any theory or model, if the premise doesn’t stay coherent, it is false. The below picture is an example of the self-refuting nature of Liberalism:

A person in a "Buck Fush" t-shirt holds up a "Teach Respect" sign. Think this person sees any contradiction? Think this person is conservative or liberal? Think this person is a man or woman?

It is similar to this quote from a Dale A. Berryhill book to make the above point more lucid:

“If homosexuality is really genetic, we may soon be able to tell if a fetus is predisposed to homosexuality, in which case many parents might choose to abort it. Will gay rights activists continue to support abortion rights if this occurs?”

Most homosexuals are pro-choicers, however, when the cards are turned on them will they still answer in the positive towards this issue? Are they really pro-choice? No, but they will never admit this, and so they fall into a self-refuting political stance.

Politics & The Modern Liberal Contradiction

Arbitrary Values / Relativism

In many cases, “modern liberal” positions are based on the idea of tolerance, the freedom of the individual to do as he or she pleases. This in turn is based on moral relativism, the idea that morality is relative to the individual and the situation (which distinguishes it from “classical liberalism”). Again, what is right or wrong for you may not be right or wrong for others. As a result, you cannot tell others not to have an abortion, not to look at or publish pornography, or not to live by an “alternative lifestyle.” Educational environments must be “value free,” there must be no restrictions on sexual and artistic freedom, and according to some, even activities such as recreational drug use should be decriminalized. Because there are no absolute values, each person must discover his own morality, a process taught in our schools as “values clarification.”

The liberal contradiction lies in the fact that every liberal position claims to be morally correct and objectively true. It is right to allow abortions and wrong to oppose them. Tolerance (in its modern definition) is good, intolerance is bad. Children should be allowed to grow up in a value-free environment; parents should not impose their own values. Modern liberalism takes a moral stance on every issue, but it undermines its own foundation by claiming that there is no moral absolute or guide to adhere to.

To put it into simple terms, yet once more, when a liberal tells you that you cannot tell other people what to do, he or she is contradicting himself by telling you what to do! And there is another side to the liberal contradiction. While many liberal positions are based on tolerance and complete individual freedom, other liberal positions are based on strict authoritarianism.

According to contemporary liberalism, the common good (what Rousseau called “the general will”) necessitates the suppression of individual rights when it comes to “saving” the environment, creating a more “equitable distribution” of wealth, achieving “equality” between races and sexes in all walks of life, and enforcing a strict separation of church and state. Paradoxically, that same common good” takes a back seat to individual freedoms when it comes to the detrimental effects of: pornography and sexual freedom, reduced police power and criminal punishment, or drug use, or firearm mandates, etc..

Let me hasten to add that I too am for tolerance, equal rights, and ending unjust discrimination. I too am for freedom of speech, artistic freedom, academic freedom, and the separation of church and state. I too am for protecting the environment and helping the underprivileged. But I am for these things because I believe in the tenants of the Judeo-Christian moral tradition, not because I reject these absolutes.

If I were to reject the idea of moral truths, what possible motivation (moral duty) could I have to champion these or any other causes? More important, on what basis could I hope to persuade others of the importance of these causes? It is inconsistent to claim to be concerned about rights while rejecting the moral foundation from which rights are derived.

The rejection of one’s own moral foundation leads one to be not only immoral, but also illogical. It leads to positions that are inconsistent with themselves and each other (self-deleting). It leads to outcomes that directly counter one’s original intention and that threaten one’s own goals. It is unfortunate for the liberal agenda, but the liberal contradiction poses just such a threat. And it is not a threat from “conservatives” or from any outside source – it is a threat from within. Because of the rejection of the moral foundation for liberalism, liberalism is failing to protect the rights it claims to cherish. “What is is?” Please Mr. President!

Turkey Joining the War in Iraq

Some intel came into the Debka File that Turkey had entered Northern Iraq. According to Debka it is a sizeable force that either has crossed or is waiting on the border to back up the few who have crossed over. This is some serious stuff folks. The U. S. did not, let me repeat, did not want this.

Another Middle East war erupts Wednesday as 50,000 Turkish troops launch operation against Kurdish PKK bases, several thousand crossing into N. Iraq

June 6, 2007, 9:25 PM (GMT+02:00)

The official Turkish news agency Cihan reports the force, backed by armored vehicles and combat aircraft, is targeting rebel strongholds in 11 provinces in southeastern Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan Wednesday, June 6.

White House officials speaking from the G8 summit in Germany said there was “no new activity” from Turkish troops in northern Iraq. Military HQ in Ankara declined to confirm or deny that Turkish troops had entered Iraq.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that this is only the first wave of Turkish invaders, with more to come. A Turkish force of 90,000 troops has been massed at the sourthern town of Sirank opposite the meeting point of the Turkish, Iraqi and Syrian borders, drawing a warning to Ankara from US defense secretary Robert Gates to stay out of Iraq.

June 2, DEBKAfile reported that the US had removed troops from northern Iraq and passed responsibility for the region’s security to the Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga.

Two days ago, Kurdish PKK rebels killed at least 8 soldiers, wounding 6, in a suicide attack on an E. Turkish checkpoint at Tunceli.

After the attack, Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gulf defended his country’s right to drive into neighboring Iraq to destroy rebel bases.

Up to 3,500 separatists are believed based in northern Iraq poised for hit-and-run terrorist attacks in Turkey. The Turkish news agency reports three F-16 Falcon fighter bombers have carried out bombing raids on positions of the PKK Kurdistan Workers Party in northern Iraq. Artillery deployed at the border with Iraq has fired at pinpointed targets.”

DEBKAfile’s Iraq sources reported last week that Iraqi Kurdistan’s president, Massoud Barzani, had sent a personal emissary, Safin Dizai, to Ankara with an urgent warning. Turkish tanks would not be allowed to cross into northern Iraq, he said. The Kurdish peshmerga would repel them. “The people of Kurdistan,“ said the messenger, “would not stand by as spectators if Turkish tanks and panzers entered Kirkuk.”

Document: Iran Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Taliban

June 06, 2007 6:00 PM

Brian Ross and Christopher Isham Report:

NATO officials say they have caught Iran red-handed, shipping heavy arms, C4 explosives and advanced roadside bombs to the Taliban for use against NATO forces, in what the officials say is a dramatic escalation of Iran's proxy war against the United States and Great Britain.

"It is inconceivable that it is anyone other than the Iranian government that's doing it," said former White House counterterrorism official Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant.

The rest of these videos were originally on my MySpace, but I will resurrect them here as they are very powerful. The first video is Christopher Hitchens leaving Bill Maher speechless. The second video is to show all the anti-religious crazies out there just how off base they are about Bush and his faith in regards to his actions in Iraq. The video after that is Christopher Hitchens tearing up a liberal professor, to see that though you must sit through the drivel of the professor, and then I will post a clobbering of Reagan Jr., which I am sure put a smile on Ronnie.

JFK Terror ... Back Page, NYT

Massive Terrorist Plot! NYT: See Page 30

FrontPage props

This weekend, federal authorities foiled a stunning terrorist plot by Muslim extremists to kill thousands of our readers, strike the international transport grid, and depress the nation’s economy during its slowest quarter since late 2002 – but enough about that.

That was the message of Sunday’s New York Times.

The FBI had prevented four men, including a former member of Guyana’s parliament, from blowing up John F. Kennedy International Airport – and possibly part of Queens. They hoped to ignite underground fuel pipes, setting off a chain reaction of explosions that would envelop the entire complex. The NY Post and New York Daily News made it front page news. The NY Daily News headlined its story, “They Aimed to Kill Thousands.” The Post included a chilling sidebar, “Pipeline Security A Joke.”

The (inexplicably) most prestigious newspaper in the world positioned its bland story more than 30 pages inside. Instead, page one featured yet another story about Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Any junior editor at any county newspaper in the country would have been fired for putting the most reported story in the nation three dozen pages into the well. Aside from burying a major international story that took place in its metro area, the Newspaper of Record took pains to make the Muslim battle plan that could have atomized a portion of its immediate readership appear utterly irrelevant.

The NYT began by obscuring the terrorists’ target. Although it faults the U.S. military for using the term “collateral damage,” the Times wrote as though the plotters only planned to blow up inanimate objects, certainly not human beings. Its opening line read, “Four men, including a onetime airport cargo handler and a former member of the Parliament of Guyana, were charged yesterday with plotting to blow up fuel tanks, terminal buildings and the web of fuel lines running beneath Kennedy International Airport.”

Secondly, it minimized the severity of the plot. JFK “was never in imminent danger because the plot was only in a preliminary phase and the conspirators had yet to lay out detailed plans or obtain financing or explosives.” Besides, “safety shut-off valves would almost assuredly have prevented an exploding airport fuel tank from igniting all or even part of the network.” Move along. Nothing to see here!

Easy Job... Most ethical in History

The Most Ethical Congress Hits Home

A database company that has showered money on Bill and Hillary Clinton – and is alleged to have aided scam artists – now appears to have close links to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's family as well.

The firm InfoUSA, headed by major Clinton backer Vinod Gupta, has placed Pelosi's son, Paul Pelosi Jr., on its payroll – even though he has no experience in the company's main business activities, NewsMax has learned.

As NewsMax previously reported, InfoUSA repeatedly rented marketing databases to unscrupulous persons who used the information to defraud the unsuspecting elderly, investigators found.

Gupta has also spent roughly $1 million of InfoUsa funds to provide corporate jet flights for both President Clinton and his wife Hillary.

Pelosi's son Paul acknowledged he has also been taking trips on corporate jets provided by Info USA.

Paid $180,000 for Second Job

Just four weeks after Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the House this past January, Gupta and InfoUSA hired her son as a senior vice president. He told NewsMax InfoUsa pays him $180,000 a year.

Even though his job with InfoUSA is considered full-time, Paul Pelosi continues another full-time job, as a home loan officer at Countrywide Home Loans, part of Countrywide Financial, in San Mateo, a suburb of San Francisco.

While InfoUSA is based in Omaha, Pelosi said he reports to a small InfoUSA office in San Mateo.

In two interviews, Paul Pelosi confirmed that Gupta hired him as senior vice president for strategic development starting Feb. 1, just after Pelosi's mother took the gavel as speaker on Jan. 4. He said his mother is aware of his new job.

Bathroom Etiquette

This Is Al Gores Consensus?

I find this overstating a rule rather than an exception of the democratic side. My friend is a teacher here in my town. He says the kids at his school get on the P.A. system to do morning announcements and call Global Warming a “Tragedy.” He told his class that this is a redefining of the word “tragedy,” and that with this definition, when he spills Del Hot Sauce (from Del Taco) on his pants, that it is a tragedy! The fear mongering from the left is incredible, but in reality, overblown. On Iraq, on the environment, on the economy, on most issues… except the Lefts moral ineptitude.

They call this a consensus?

Lawrence Solomon, Financial Post

Published: Saturday, June 02, 2007

"Only an insignificant fraction of scientists deny the global warming crisis. The time for debate is over. The science is settled."

S o said Al Gore ... in 1992. Amazingly, he made his claims despite much evidence of their falsity. A Gallup poll at the time reported that 53% of scientists actively involved in global climate research did not believe global warming had occurred; 30% weren't sure; and only 17% believed global warming had begun. Even a Greenpeace poll showed 47% of climatologists didn't think a runaway greenhouse effect was imminent; only 36% thought it possible and a mere 13% thought it probable.

Today, Al Gore is making the same claims of a scientific consensus, as do the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and hundreds of government agencies and environmental groups around the world. But the claims of a scientific consensus remain unsubstantiated. They have only become louder and more frequent…..

120,000 Anti-Semites? NO, 160,000.

Britain’s University and College Union, representing more than 120,000 college-level educators has voted to go forward with a proposal to boycott Israeli academic institutions, according to the Jewish Daily Forward.

The Union voted May 30 to pass a motion beseeching its branches to circulate and discuss a Palestinian call for boycott of Israeli academics and universities.

Meanwhile in Britain, a coalition of Jewish groups has united to condemn the teachers union’s vote.

"The UCU boycott motion is an assault on academic freedom,” said Jeremy Newmark, the chief executive of Britain’s Jewish leadership council. "While the vast majority of academics do not support a boycott, the decision damages the credibility of British academia as a whole.”

Another recent move to exert political pressure on the Jewish state came in April, when Britain’s 40,000-member National Union of Journalists adopted a resolution calling for a boycott of Israeli goods.

What Does Secularism Have in Common with Islam? Dhimmitude!

What Does Secularism Have in Common with Islam? Dhimmitude!

The Christian – very similar to Sharia Law – is considered a “second class citizen” to the secularist. Our speech should only be allowed in the privacy of the church or home. A fellow blogger recently commented on this in regards to a graduation speech. This person is a believer in freedom of speech, but as most on the Left, this person doesn’t realize how his egalitarianism has created a climate of censorship. I guess speech should be approved now by censors who give a thumb up and a thumb down as to what someone can say and not say.

Can Valedictorians, Salutatorians, or Honorary Speakers Give Speeches on Religious Subjects, Including Reading From the Bible?

YES! As stated previously, it is well-settled that religious speech is protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution.39 Remember that school administrators can only prohibit protected speech by students when it "materially and substantially interfere[s] with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the school."

If students have been granted freedom to compose their own speeches (e.g., valedictorian or salutatorian addresses), protected student expression should not be subjected to censorship because of its religious viewpoint. It is a fundamental proposition of constitutional law that a government official may not suppress or exclude speech for the sole reason that the speech expresses a religious perspective. Denial of this bedrock principle would undermine the essential guarantees of free speech and religious freedom under the First Amendment.

There is quite a difference between refusing to direct prayer or invite clergy to give prayer at graduation, and choosing to prohibit individual student expression based on its content. The First Amendment precludes any governmental effort to single out and censor - or otherwise burden - the speech of private parties solely because that speech is religious. A decision by a school board to respect the free speech rights of students and to refrain from censoring student speech based solely on its content is not a deliberate violation of the law. Students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate." Nor do students shed those rights as they pass through the auditorium doors to attend graduation or promotional exercises.

Below are just some recent examples to show how the progressive – I use that term tongue and cheek – Left is expanding our freedoms. This is why Tammy Bruce, a pro-choice lesbian, calls the Democratic left on their “thought policing.”

A junior high school student whose contribution to a school mural was censored because it contained a cross will now be allowed to have her artwork included in the mural after attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund sent an information letter on her behalf.

“Christian speech should not be relegated to second-class status,” said ADF Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot. “The Supreme Court has affirmed that students do not shed their beliefs when they enter the schoolhouse gate. We’re glad that the school district acted quickly and did the right thing by recognizing Melissa’s constitutional right to free speech.”

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a motion for preliminary injunction Thursday after a Minnesota school district refused to allow a group to distribute fliers containing religious content even though other groups are permitted to do so.

“Christian groups should not be treated as second-class,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Joel Oster. “The First Amendment prohibits school officials from censoring fliers simply because the fliers contain religious content. If they allow one group or individual to distribute fliers, they must open the doors to everyone.”

On Thursday, the Superior Court of Forsyth County granted a petition for writ of certiorari filed by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund. ADF attorneys asked the court to hear a case involving the right to distribute religious tracts on a public sidewalk. Frederic Baumann, a local citizen handing out religious tracts, was arrested, jailed, and convicted without being told why he was being charged.

“Christian speech should not be treated as second-class,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman. “The city misapplied the law against Mr. Baumann and violated his constitutional right to religious expression. The First Amendment right for an individual to express his ideas in public does not require a governmental ‘permission slip.’”

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund have sent an information letter to the superintendent the Comstock Park Public School District expressing that allowing the Comstock Park High School student choir to sing “The Lord’s Prayer” at their graduation ceremony Thursday would not violate the U.S. Constitution. ADF attorneys offered to defend the school if the ACLU or any of its allies chose to sue the school over the situation.

“The Establishment Clause does not ban religious songs at graduation, and it’s ridiculous that anyone would try to censor students wanting to honor a deceased classmate with one of his favorite songs,” said ADF Litigation Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “We sent the information letter to the Comstock Park School District to let them know that ADF will defend the school if the ACLU or any of its allies has the audacity to sue over this.”

On April 22, Baumann was arrested for distributing religious tracts on a public sidewalk outside the city of Cumming fairgrounds, saying Baumann had violated a city ordinance requiring parade and demonstration organizers to obtain a permit before engaging in such activities. However, the permit requirement only applies to private organizations or groups of more than three persons.

The Alliance Defense Fund, The American Legion, and Liberty Legal Institute will hold a press conference Thursday to announce a national effort to defend and protect America’s veterans’ memorials from potential legal attacks from groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union.

“One person’s agenda shouldn’t diminish the sacrifice made by America’s veterans and their families,” said ADF Senior Counsel and Senior Vice-President of Allied Attorney Support and Coordination Joe Infranco. “Despite the claims from the ACLU and others, crosses on veterans’ memorials have been under attack. One only needs to look at what’s happened at Mt. Soledad and in the Mojave Desert. Americans want these memorials to be protected.”

ADF has been involved in legal efforts to defend the cross memorial at Mt. Soledad in San Diego and the Mojave Desert Cross in southern California against ACLU-led efforts to have them removed. Both memorials honor American military veterans.

Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed a motion for preliminary injunction Thursday on behalf of a member of the Gideons threatened with arrest for distributing Bibles on a public sidewalk. A Monroe County sheriff’s officer told Thomas Gray and several other Gideons members that they had “no right” to be within 500 feet of a public school’s property.

“The First Amendment ensures that all persons and groups, including the Gideons, have the right to engage in free speech on a public sidewalk,” said Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman. “We are asking the court to halt the unconstitutional harassment of Gideons members while this lawsuit moves forward.”

On Jan. 19, Gray, along with other members of the Gideons Key Largo Camp, began distributing Bibles on a public sidewalk outside Key Largo School. In accordance with Gideons Key Largo Camp policy, they did not step on to school grounds, and they notified the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office of their plans ahead of time. School officials were also notified on the day of distribution. Both said the activity was permissible.

During the distribution, Gray learned that two other Gideons, Anthony Mirto and Ernest Simpson, were under arrest and sitting in a Monroe County patrol car. Officer John Perez mocked the two men, saying they could “pray to Jesus all the way to jail.” Out of fear of arrest, Gray left the scene and has not returned. ADF attorneys filed suit on behalf of Gray on April 20.
