Transportation Department Embraces Bikes, and Business Groups Cry Foul

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced a “major policy revision” that aims to give bicycling and walking the same policy and economic consideration as driving.

Today I want to announce a sea change,” he wrote on his blog last week. “This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of nonmotorized.”

Not surprisingly, the news had bike enthusiasts excited.

“It is simply the strongest statement of support for prioritizing bicycling and walking ever to come from a sitting secretary of transportation,” said Darren Flusche, policy analyst for the League of American Bicyclists.

Nonetheless, some business groups have expressed concern that giving walking and biking the same policy considerations as other transportation modes, as Mr. LaHood recommended, would impede progress on other fronts.

As an air defender, I look forward to seeing what the Ruskies are cooking. However I fear that India is not the only customer for this aircraft. Hardest hit are the liberals and “defense analysts” who called the F-22 too expensive. Some F-16/F-15 cheerleaders are also going to have to eat their words.

A Fix for Windows Media Center "Trapping" the Mouse Pointer In a Dual Screen Set-up

When I had my Media Center maximized in my second screen, the mouse pointer became trapped in that screen.

What I found out is that if you press ALT and then TAB (while holding down ALT) you free the pointer.  One thing though, keep one window open, even if it is the Volume Mixer, this will ensure that both windows are accessible.

This is where technology comes into play. Technology requires money and R&D, which requires money. I think an increase in making our troops even safer -- in any way -- is well worth the R&D and extra spending.

There are also some interesting concepts in a replacement for the Humvee, or, Joint Light Tactical Vehical (JLTV). In the above concept drawing you notice that the troops are totally separated from the gas tank and motor, and are encased in a IED protected pod. Below is some working models of a replacement:

In part 2 of the above video there is a retelling of a rollover event of a Humvee is how a great young man, Ricky Slocum (the first SCV "statistic" in Iraq), lost his life. Free Republic has some good back-and-forth on this topic as well. The Humvee was again front-and-center at the winter 2009 AUSA (Association of the United States Army) meeting, but only in quick escape windows that allow for quick exits in case of fire and other emergencies. Lockheed-Martin may be the manufacturer who wins the contract, take note there was a roll-over during this filming, which I do not view as bad if such roll-overs in R&D stop needless injury and death:
